tan appears in two languages — Georgian and English. Every piece is written in both rather than run through a translation: the Georgian and the English version often differ, because saying the same thing in a different language takes a different route. Where that difference matters, we leave it visible.
What we publish
Two things: essays and conversations.
An essay, here, is a text that follows a single question all the way down — not an article that walks around a subject. A conversation is a record in which both sides had time. Neither format is fast.
We do not publish news, commentary on the day’s events, or writing that will be stale in a week.
Why there are no images
Because they would add nothing. A text that needs a photograph to be read is probably not finished. This is not a principle for every publication — only for this one.
Rhythm
There is no schedule. A piece goes up when it is ready. Sometimes that is twice in a month; sometimes it is nothing for three.
